This section I have put together to help you get to grips with the basics, just some general dos and don’ts when buying /applying makeup.
1. The perfect base
Find the right foundation for your skin tone. Foundation should be used to enhance and even out tones. It should NOT look like a mask or change your skin colour. When buying feel free to ask one of the assistance to give you a hand they should be more than happy to help, you can also ask if they have any samples so you can take it away and try before you splash out an the full size bottle.
If you need to cover a blemish or pimple use a concealer half a shade lighter than your natural skin tone. Apply a small amount with a brush over foundation than set with powder.
Tinted moisturisers are fab for giving a natural glow - particularly good for the more mature skin. The key is not too over do your base. Shading can be added on cheek bones with blusher/bronzer to obtain your desired look. For a matt finish apply a translucent powder over your base.
2. Eyeshadow
Find a colour to suit you, if unsure use a natural pale shade all over the socket. If you have creases/wrinkles/laughter lines etc around your eyes avoid shimmery eyes-shadows as these will only highlight these lines.
3. Eyeliner
Should you choose to use a liner, pencils are much easier to use and can give either a natural or a hard line. Harsh lines can be blended easily using a cotton bud to create more of a shadow than a line. Keep your pencil sharp for accurate results.
4. Lipstick/gloss
Glosses are the safe bet and can be bought in many different shades. The golden rule is – if you have a lot of eye makeup on, then stick to a natural colour on your lips. If however your eye make up is minimal then go as bright as you like with the lipstick.
5. Eyebrows
Fact - eyebrows frame your face. Ensure you make the best of what you have, if your not brave enough to pluck them yourself then go to a salon and have them waxed this will then give you a shape and you can maintain them as they start to grow back.
